Care Instructions
· Sterling (or 925) silver can tarnish over time especially it has contact with certain chemicals, acidic food, cleaning agents and worst of all, chlorine, which can leave permanent marks. Try to apply make up, perfume and avoid getting in contact with body creams before wearing.
· Silver should be kept dry so remove it before washing up, showering, bathing or swimming.
· If possible store in a tarnish-free cloth or good quality Jewellery box.
· A silver polishing cloth is a useful item for giving your Jewellery lustre and shine.
· Take care when cleaning jewellery with gemstones as the gems may require cleaning.
If your jewellery is oxidised then no cleaning is required. The surface can shine up with wearing and try to keep dry to prolong its black colour. If the oxdised surface comes away a great deal it is possible to get it re-dipped, only takes a few seconds.
Cleaning Instructions
The best and most inexpensive way to clean my silver jewellery is with baking soda.
1. Line a large bowl or a small bucket with tinfoil with the shiny side facing outwards
2. Place silver items into the foil-lined container
3. Add baking soda
4. Pour in hot water to cover the items that need to be cleaned and allow the silver t fizz, if doesn't fizz, add more soda
5. Repeat Process until excess of soda has disappeared
6. Lastly Soak for about half an hour
7. Remove the silver from the water
8. Rinse
9. Dry and rub over with silver cloth.
Baking soda can also be used to clean large pieces of silver without using the dipping method that is explained above. For these larger pieces you will want to combine baking soda with water to form a paste. Dip a clean, damp sponge into the paste and rub it onto the silver. The longer you leave the paste on the silver, the more tarnish you will remove. Finish by rinsing the silver with hot water and drying. I would not recommend Silver cleaning solutions or dips as they can leave nasty residues and ruin the surface of the silver, esp if not rinsed properly. Also can damage delicate gems such as pearls.
